Steam Cleaning

This method is frequently called "steam" cleaning due to the fine spray of water used to force dirt out of the carpet which is sucked up by the vacuum slot immediately in front of the spray. Seldom is real live steam used, however. This process consists of spraying a solution of water and detergent into the carpet pile and recovering the water and soil with a powerful vacuum into a holding tank. This can be done from a truck-mounted unit outside the home or business with only a hose and floor tool brought into the home or business. It is believed that hot water extraction is the best carpet cleaning method available. This is because studies show that 99% of all dust mite allergens found in carpet are removed with a single steam cleaning. This method does an excellent job in extracting soil from deep in the carpet pile and can be very effective in removing other contaminants. Therefore, hot water extraction is the only cleaning method classified as "deep and restorative." This method is recommended as a part of their regular carpet cleaning regimen. Shaw Industries, the world's largest carpet manufacturer, recommends this method because its own research indicates that it provides the best capability for cleaning. Shaw's views are shared by most of your leading carpet manufacturers.

Dry Cleaning (Bonnet or "Carbonated" Cleaning)

This method, sometimes called "dry cleaning," for carpet maintenance consists of the use of a rotary or oscillating brush adapted with a stiff brush or drive block designed to drive wet, damp, or dry pads. The carpet can be pre-sprayed with the cleaning solution and/or the pads can be soaked in the cleaning solution and squeezed lightly before placing the pad under the drive brush. Sometimes, carbonated water is used to (in theory) give better soil suspension and bring down the pH. Companies using this method frequently use "scare" tactics to convince consumers that extraction cleaning or steam cleaning will destroy the carpet. This is a myth. The maintenance brochure published by the world's largest carpet manufacturer, Shaw Industries, suggests not using this method, especially on cut pile, due to pile distortion and fiber damage. Other leading carpet manufacturers such as Mohawk Industries, Royalty Carpet Mills, Inc.and Mannington Carpets, Inc. (according to the Carpet & Rug Institute) also find this method unfavorable.

Steam Cleaning vs. Dry Cleaning

The choice of the proper cleaning system is extremely important. Some systems leave residues which promote re-soiling and defeat the whole purpose of cleaning. Some methods, particularly those that use a brushing or rubbing of the pile surface, actually damage the carpet fibers and shorten the life of the carpet. "Steam" cleaning is the recommended choice of the leading carpet manufacturers. The frequency of cleaning is based on the amount of traffic which is measured on a high, medium, and low scale.

Heavy Soil Treatment

Enviro-friendly cleaning solution is applied with a hydro-force applicator that loosens the dirt, allowing for a deeper clean.

Water Damage Restoration

Fusion Carpet Care offers 24 hour, 7 days a week, Emergency service for water damage and flood extraction. Once the source of the problem is fixed, our trained professionals will come in and extract the water, treat for mold, and set up drying equipment. They will also examine the affected area for mold, the walls for excessive moisture, the carpet for delamunation, and the padding for mold and deterioration. Once they have determined the severity of the water damage they will make a decision as to how to handle the situation. If the pad is damaged or molded, they will cut and remove the damaged pad and then extract the excess water from the concrete, back and top of the carpet. If the pad is okay, the water will be extracted using a piece of equipment that uses pressure and suction to extract the water from the top of the carpet down through the pad. After the water is extracted, the affected area is treated for mold and mildew. Then drying and dehumidification equipment is set up. On average, the equipment remains at the affected location for three days. This could be more or less depending on the severity of the damage. The area affected will then be re-examined for visible mold and excessive moisture. If everything is okay, the area will be put back to the condition it was before the water damage occurred.

Dehumidification is a process that can save the home or business owner money in restoration and replacement costs. Dehumidifiers are used in water damage situations to pull water and moisture from the walls, concrete, carpets, insulation, baseboards, and atmosphere. This reduces high humidity and moisture levels, allowing for a greater drying time and significantly reduces the chances for mold growth.
